Pacing - RPing with others

One of the reasons we do in-character meetings during the application process is to get an idea for how RP flows with you and your characters.  It's not all about the character, specifically, though that is a large portion of it.

Group RP is something that people set aside game time for...and time is money, friends.  In addition to the actual subscription cost that people pay to play WoW, there's an opportunity cost associated with doing group content.  When you're setting aside time to get into character and do things as your Death Knight would, you're giving up the chance to be doing other activities, like leveling alts, doing collection work, pet battles, PvE/PvP, or other game content.

As such, it's expected that players respect that sacrifice and keep the story/conversation going for the benefit of everyone involved.  Standing around waiting for five minutes while someone taps out a conversational response to a simple in-character question is frustrating.  You don't know if they're typing up a huge emote or if they've simply gone afk or been disconnected.  WoW doesn't have an in-game indicator when someone is typing, as is seen in some other MMOs.  So, we encourage you keep it brief. If you can't say it all in one (or at most two) messages, you might be trying to do too much.

The character limit in chat is 255 characters, and that can disappear pretty quickly when you're trying to convey a mixture of emotions.  That's okay, but if you're going to need to convey something in more, just a quick out-of-character message to indicate that you're typing a lot, and then when you're done posting blocks, is a great courtesy and will be appreciated.
On that note, however, if you think you need at least two blocks...you might want to consider the following: are you taking over RP for a while, driving the story?  Is your character performing multiple actions, and if so, are you depriving other characters a chance to respond to your character's words or actions?

Thanks for taking the time to read up on some thoughts about RP pacing.  See you all in game!
